Nitte University: Where there is space for every dream

Media Release

Mangaluru, Feb 23: Ranked 65th in NIRF 2023, Nitte University, with an off campus in Nitte town, Udupi district and a main campus in Mangaluru is a private, self-financed University, with roots in education and healthcare. What began as Nitte Education Trust in 1979, with the opening of a primary school, in three quick decades, in 2008, metamorphosed into a university. Nitte owes its beginnings and growth to its founder, Justice K S Hegde, former judge of the Supreme Court of India and speaker of the Lok Sabha.

Today, after 45 years in education, Nitte University offers programmes ranging from engineering, medicine and dentistry, to architecture, hotel management and media & communication. As a multidisciplinary university, Nitte has steadily become the destination of choice for students from all over India and abroad.

While the constituent colleges A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences and NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences rank 5th & 46th in NIRF 2023 by the ministry of education, government of India, NMAM Institute of Technology, has been placed in the Rank band 101-150.

Students of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy and allied health sciences get trained at the 1200-bed NABH accredited, multispecialty K S Hegde Hospital and the 21 Rural Health Centres attached to it, thus introducing students to the challenges of rural healthcare.

A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences made it to the Limca Book of Records in 2021, for conducting the largest ‘single-day denture camps’. In its four-decade history, the dental college has consistently ranked among the Top 10 in the country.

NMAM Institute of Technology stands out as one of the leading engineering colleges in South India, drawing students from diverse regions. Its outstanding infrastructure, impressive placement records and extracurricular activities like aeromodelling, robotics and diverse student clubs contribute to its widespread appeal.

NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the oldest of Nitte’s colleges, ranks among the top 50 pharmaceutical colleges in India, with the undergraduate programs being accredited by NBA.

Nitte is renowned for its engagement in student exchange initiatives and has strong collaborations with global universities like the Pennsylvania State University, University of Wollongong, University of Miyazaki, Ritsumeikan University, Okayama University, University Illinois, University of Santo Tomas, Ghent University and University of Gothenburg. The university's involvement in programmes like the Sakura Science Exchange, along with internships and placements in Japanese companies, further adds to its distinguished reputation.

Nitte is distinguished by its robust focus on sports and recreation. The BC Alva Sports Complex, located in both Mangaluru and Nitte campuses, offers facilities for a wide range of sports. Intercollege festivals and sporting events witness intense competition, drawing a significant number of enthusiastic students. Whether it is Onam, Diwali, Dasara or Christmas, campus festivals are celebrated joyfully, with active participation from both students and staff.

Beyond academics and extracurricular activities, the welfare of students, encompassing both physical and mental aspects, holds significant importance at Nitte. Trained counsellors and student wellness centres are available to provide support to students on campus at all times.

Dynamic placement cells, outstanding sports amenities, robust backing for extracurricular activities, promotion of student research via the Nitte University Student Research Fund, a well-established alumni network with numerous members occupying significant roles in the industry, and the verdant campuses collectively characterise this emerging and vibrant university.
