Mangaluru: School boy washed away at Panambur beach

Mangaluru, Feb 25: A school student was washed away by the strong waves while playing at Panambur beach.

Tukaram (13), a seventh-grade student at the government school in Meenakaliya, is the boy who went missing after being carried away by the sea.

Tukaram, accompanied by his friend Maruti, visited Panambur beach after school to enjoy playing in the water. Unfortunately, Tukaram began drowning, prompting beachgoers to alert the on-duty lifeguard. Despite the lifeguard's efforts to rescue Tukaram, he struggled against the powerful waves.

Hailing from North Karnataka, Tukaram lived with his parents, who work as daily wage laborers in Baikampady.

A formal complaint has been lodged at the Panambur police station regarding this tragic incident.

    Maple, Padubidari and Kapu are the only three safer beaches in DK, most of the year, except for a few weeks of peak monsoon. When police prevent people from getting into a beach, they are looked upon as spoiled sport. Respect the law, they are there to protect not harm. Co-operate.

    In Dubai people obey the rule and penalty. In India who will obey the rule ? People in M'lore don't care safety. If you speak about hygiene and safety they will answer "Poya".

    May the little angel Rest In Peace. Kids need to be taught about water safety in school. Swimming lessons should be incorporated in school curriculum.

    Our beaches are steep with strong underwater currents locals know this and don't go into sea but tourists keep dieing nobody seems to know this even our readers don't seem to know (beaches are flat and that's why you see waves, not ours where waves only come up the last few feet)

    no value for people in india . feel very sad . no proper plan for beach in mangalore all know that Panambur beach is very dangers . still no alert in life gaurd only . people come to enjoy but while going back they have to carry the dead body .........

    Death by drowning are reported very often but no account of unreported deaths in rural areas or remote areas .Human life is precious .The poor boy lost his life.This is a serious issue why the life guards failed to save the boy..?

    third world country...third class safety standards..i lived in dubai for 25 years...one has to see the life guards at Jumeirah beach...high alert 24x7...here the life is so cheap..most of the life guards are high on spirits themselves...in beaches at panambur....and malpe

    real kujuma, kodial I do agree with you 100% as I too lived in Dubai more than 25 years. Unfortunately, our society is not concerned about our own fellow being. The staff who are working at the beaches including security guards, life saving guards have sub standard training and no passion for duties and to save lives. Very low morale and no accountability.

    India you pay all kind of taxes exists in the world but no quality of life or infrastructure. Dubai no taxes but high standards. India is never going to change for good. no morale.
