Mangalore, Sep 26: Bypoll was held for 35 gram panchayat (GP) memberships spread over five taluks of Dakshina Kannada district on Sunday September 25. A total of 22,304 voters exercised their franchise. The polling percentage for the district as a whole stood at 68.26. The taluk-wise posts which went into the polls were, Mangalore (15), Bantwal (10), Puttur (2), Beltangady (5), and Sullia (3).

Among the constituencies where polls were held, Chandravati, BJP-supported candidate from Kodman ward of Meramajalu panchayat was the only member to have been elected unopposed.

The highest polling percentage of 79 percent was registered in a ward in Bellare GP in Sullia taluk. As against this, only 55.04 percent of voters came out to vote at a constituency in Nedle village of Beltangady taluk, a release from the office of the deputy commissioner said.
