Mangaluru: Industry Academia Interaction held at St Agnes College

Mangaluru, Mar 4: The Industry Academia Interaction was held on February 29, at St Agnes College (Autonomous) Mangaluru. The interaction began with a welcome address by the principal, Sr Dr Venissa A C Dr Devi Prabha, associate professor, department of commerce emphasized that the Industry Academia Interaction was to bridge the gap and ensure higher employability levels.

Representatives from 7 companies from Mangaluru and faculty members from various departments of both UG and PG representing the academia were present.

The representatives from different companies observed that there needs to be a focus on preparing students with newer skills and hands-on experience in addition to the defined syllabus. They also suggested that workshops and weekly sessions on IT enabling skills need to be conducted.

They highlighted that students can be better prepared towards placement by conducting mock interviews, aptitude enhancing activities, soft skill training and internship preparedness based activities. They said that students need to understand and follow professional ethics and decorum of organizations when carrying out their internship and that they should also be aware of the various avenues available at an organization and should not be rigid in the choice of domain within an organization. They also emphasized that women students need to be empowered to carry on with employment in spite of family or personal challenges wherein faculty members can share their personal life experiences to motivate students to take up challenges when they step out of college.

The session ended with a summary of the interactions being read out by Dr Devi Prabha.
