Udupi: AIESEC Manipal University Conducts 'Impact Week'

Udupi, Sep 28: AIESEC Manipal University Organized 'Impact Week' recently to increase awareness about various social issues pivotal to the society.

Impact Week 2011 is a unique platform created by AIESEC Manipal University which aims at creating awareness amongst the people living in and around Manipal. The event was held with the vision of creating an impact amongst the youth audience in Manipal University and the surrounding areas and educational centres.

The various issues that were taken up were ‘Are you ready to change the world?’, ‘Environment Day’, 'Senior Citizen's Day' and 'Impact Marathon'.

On 'Environmental Day', issues concerned with the environment like a recycling drive, tree-plantation drive and clean-up drive were conducted as part of the day’s activities in Manipal. A 10 day long recycling drive was conducted in Manipal in association with MSFM. About 52.5 kgs of glass, 2.5 kgs of plastic, recyclable paper- 13.5 kgs were collected.

In addition to this, 20 trees were planted in the Manipal University campus in association with the University to keep Manipal a clean and green environment and restore it to its former green glory.

On ‘Senior Citizen’s Day’ over 100 students of Manipal University spent weekends with Senior Citizens in Mangalore, Udupi and Kundapur like St Anne’s Home for the Aged-Mangalore, Ozanam-Kalyanpur, Udupi, Chaitanya Old Age Home - Kundapur. Activities and games were organized for these senior citizens including origami, bingo/housie, and clay modelling along with a singing session.

‘Impact Marathon’ a mini-marathon was conducted by AIESEC Manipal University along with Leo Club Manipal’s ‘Save the earth campaign’ with over 200 students participating in the marathon. The Marathon was conducted to raise awareness on causes addressed by AIESEC Manipal University including child rights, women’s empowerment, environmental awareness & HIV/AIDS awareness.

AIESEC is the world largest youth-run organization present in over 112 countries across the world, platform enables young people to explore and develop their potential to provide leadership for a positive impact on society.
