Mangalore, Oct 1: Dakshina Kannada District deputy commissioner, N S Chennappa Gowda, said that the district administration has made alternate arrangements to ensure that the strike of the personnel manning the ambitious ‘108’ ambulance service of the government will not adversely affect the needy people of the district. He expressed confidence that all the 19 vehicles under the service will become operational by Saturday October 1 evening.

He held three meetings with officials in this connection. The DC added that to the fleet of nine ambulances which have started serving the people, five more were added on Friday. He explained that the remaining ambulances will join the fleet by Saturday evening. He said that the ‘108 Arogya Kavacha’ ambulance services fall under essential services. As such, the unauthorized absence of the personnel is being viewed seriously, stern steps will be taken against the absentees, and cases will be registered against them, he explained.

14 drivers from the health department and two from Wenlock Hospital have been deputed to make these ambulances operational.
