Mangaluru, Apr 10: On Monday, April 8, residents of Adyar Kannur and Thumbe areas purchased tender coconut water by the liter from the Bonda Factory of Lands Flavor in Adyar. However, on April 9, they experienced vomiting and diarrhea from morning till evening.
The tender coconut water, sold to the public at Rs 40 per liter on Monday evening, seems to be the cause of the health issues reported by those in the vicinity of Adyar and Kannur. Many individuals who consumed the water have suffered from vomiting since Tuesday. Despite receiving treatment from local doctors, three patients had to be admitted to Highland Hospital, while the remaining 12 are currently undergoing treatment at Fr Mullers and other hospitals.
Following these incidents, a complaint was lodged with the District Health Officer and the District Food Safety Officer via WhatsApp on Wednesday. Promptly responding to the complaint, both officials visited the Bonda factory in Adyar and collected samples of the raw tender coconut water for laboratory analysis.
As a precautionary measure, the entire factory was temporarily shut down and subjected to a thorough cleaning. Additionally, health and food safety officials visited the registered inpatients at Highland Hospital in Falnir on Wednesday. They gathered information about their health conditions and consulted with attending physicians to ensure appropriate measures were taken to safeguard public health.
