Mangaluru, April 11: The district health and family welfare officer accompanied by district officer of food safety, district survey officer and taluk health officer visited the Bonda factory at Adyar on Thursday, April 11.
The officials held discussions with the heads of the outlet and issued a notice to them asking them not to sell tender coconut water and food items for the time being until further orders. The officials got the outlet closed.
The officials later visited in groups the victims who had consumed contaminated tender coconut water at Father Muller Hospital, Perlaya Hospital on B C Road, Bantwal taluk Hospital, Pushparaj Hospital of Kalladka, Highland Hospital Mangaluru, Unity Hospital, Kanachur Hospital, Yenepoya Hospital, Indiana Hospital and Colaco Hospital .
As many as 137 people had fallen sick after drinking the tender coconut water and 84 people had obtained treatment as outpatients while 53 of them had been treated as in-patients. As many as 23 people have been discharged. The health of all those who were admitted in hospitals is stable. The health department has continued to keep a close watch on the developments.
