Mangaluru, Apr 18: A 3-day holiday camp was conducted for children from grade 4 to 10 at St Joseph the Worker Church, Neermarga, under the leadership of Fr Paul Pinto from April 15 to 17. The camp, themed "Let's participate with joy and excitement, and let's journey with hope," proved to be highly successful.
Bros Loywin and Aron from the Mangalore Diocese along with Bro Richard from the Redemptionist order, ensured that not a moment of boredom occurred during these three days.
Fr Paul Pinto, parish priest, Bro Richard, Sandeep Misquith, vice-president, parish pastoral council, Usha Fernandes, secretary, PPC, Benedicta Machado, coordinator were present on the dais for the inaugural ceremony of the camp, at 10 am on Monday, April 15.
The function kicked off with lighting of the lamp. Benedicta Machado extended a warm welcome. Bro Loywin compered the programme.The participants eloquently expressed the values instilled during the camp in written form: peace, love, restraint, reverence for God and humility.
Five participant groups were organized, engaging in games and imparting moral lessons aimed at fostering the spiritual growth of the children.
In the closing ceremony held on April 17, the parish priest emphasised the significance of spiritual growth, the importance of attending daily Mass, and the response to vocations. He also thanked everyone who supported the camp.
The winning groups that scored the highest points in the activities over the three days were awarded first and second places, while the remaining participants were recognised with encouragement prizes.
Bro Richard expressed his deep appreciation for the outstanding participation of all the children. Brother Loywin then showcased a brief video highlighting the three-day camp.
Alston Lobo hosted the programme. Sanzia Menzes extended a warm welcome to the gathering, and Preetesh Saldanha shared his thoughts on behalf of all the children. All the children made excellent use of this camp opportunity.
