Beatle Legend Paul McCartney Weds US Heiress Nancy Shevell

London, Oct 10 (PTI): Former Beatle Paul McCartney today married American trucking heiress Nancy Shevell, who becomes the third wife of the pop icon following a 45-minute civil marriage ceremony here.

Emerging from the Old Marylebone Town Hall, where Paul married first wife Linda Eastman - also an American - in 1969, the Beatle legend said he was feeling "absolutely wonderful".

"Terrific, thank you. I feel married," he was quoted as saying by BBC coming out of the central London register office to be showered with confetti by wedding guests.

The beaming and relaxed couple drove off in a burgundy Lexus for a gala reception.
Shevell, 51, is a board member of New York's transportation authority and vice-president of her family haulage firm.

Linda McCartney died in 1998 and Paul, 69, split from second wife Heather Mills during an acrimonious divorce in 2008.

Around 200 fans had gathered outside the central London register office, along with journalists and press photographers, with barricades in place.

Ringo Starr, the only other surviving former Beatle, arrived at the London venue before the ceremony.

Shevell, who was married for 20 years to American lawyer and political candidate Bruce Blakeman, became engaged to Paul in May.

The couple began dating four years ago in the upmarket Hamptons area of Long Island.
But the wedding is expected to mean an end to her work in the family business and her leaving her position on the board of the transportation body.

Shevell told the New York Post she would "love" the couple to live in the US but she would "probably" move to England after the wedding.
