Mangaluru, Apr 22: In observance of World Earth Day, Saroja Prakash, Prakash, Ashwini K Bhat, along with members of the Dakshina Kannada Udupi unit of the organization 'Parisarakkagi Navu', conducted a public demonstration at Kadri Park on April 21. The demonstration, which lasted for two hours, aimed to educate the public about the detrimental effects of plastic usage, the importance of composting organic waste, and the use of bio-enzymes. Slogans advocating for environmental awareness were creatively displayed using recycled materials such as old cardboard and papers affixed to reused PVC pipes.
Devaki G K, Anjani Vasanth, and other like-minded individuals collaborated in facilitating the event. The Earth Day theme for this year, 'Earth vs Plastic', served as a focal point for discussions. Approximately 60 individuals actively engaged with the demonstration, showing keen interest in learning about sustainable alternatives to plastic and the practice of composting.
The organizers ensured proper permissions were obtained from the park administration in advance to conduct the event. Looking ahead, there are plans to expand such awareness programs using similar interactive methods to reach a wider audience. The organizers expressed confidence in the potential impact of collective activism, believing that concerted efforts can lead to meaningful change in environmental consciousness and behaviour.
