BJP lodges complaint with EC, accuses Congress of spreading misinformation

Daijiworld Media Network – New Delhi

New Delhi, May 3: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has filed a complaint with the Election Commission (EC), alleging that the Congress and its allies are attempting to create social unrest by spreading falsehoods, including claims about changes to the Constitution. This move comes amidst a heated exchange between the ruling party and opposition groups ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

According to the BJP, the Congress has been propagating misinformation, including the notion that the BJP aims to amend the Constitution and abolish quotas for marginalized communities. Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi, and party leader Om Pathak led the delegation that submitted the complaint to the Election Commission.

The BJP's allegations also include accusations against the opposition INDIA bloc for circulating deepfake videos, with particular reference to a manipulated video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's speech that went viral on social media platforms.

Addressing reporters after the meeting with Election Commission officials, Sudhanshu Trivedi emphasized the organized nature of these efforts to spread disinformation. He highlighted instances where Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, made statements suggesting the BJP's intentions to alter the Constitution.

Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar condemned the Congress for what he described as a strategy based on lies and distortion of facts. He stressed the importance of the Election Commission taking prompt action to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

In its memorandum to the Election Commission, the BJP demanded a thorough investigation into the Congress' misleading campaigns and propaganda. The party urged the Election Commission to direct Rahul Gandhi to issue a public apology and called for legal action against him under stringent provisions of the law.

With tensions running high between the BJP and the opposition ahead of the elections, the Election Commission's response to these allegations will be closely watched to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
