Bengaluru, May 6: Though rains lashed a few parts of Karnataka in the summer, the simmering heat continues to rage. The diseases which were usually seen during monsoon have surfaced this time in the summer.

Sun stroke, migraine, nose bleeding in addition to bacteria and virus infections are seen among the public. The normal temperature of the human body is around 16.4 deg to 37.2 deg C and if the itemperature indoor or outdoor is more than this, the humans tend to fall sick.

Chicken pox, Typhoid fever and skin diseases are also on the rise. According to health department sources people falling sick has risen by 20% to 30%.

District health officer of Dakshina Kannada Dr H R Thimmiah said, “The rise in mercury level and changes in the quality of water are causing sickness. It is  important to ascertain the cleanliness of water.” Health department officials have advised citizens to drink boiled and cooled water in the summer months.

Dr Satish Shankar, lecturer, Alvas Ayurveda College, said, “Cases of kidney stone ailments increase during summer in addition to urine infection. Purified water, tender coconut and juices need to be consumed in more quantity. As the water percentage in the body gets reduced due to perspiration it is better to stay hydrated.”

Due to perspiration, water level in the body comes down causing sickness. ORS and fruit juices need to be consumed more during summer. It is better to wear cotton clothes, sun glasses and carry umbrella to beat the heat. Always the required quantity of water needs to be carried. Only if required, one has to step out of the home. It is better to get inside home before the sun rises. Even at home it is better to sit in the shade and a place where ventilation is adequate. Children should be taken care of. Pregnant women, those who work outdoors, psychologically ill people, heart patients and BP patients should all take good care of themselves.

That is what we were taught and forced to recite, very early in in life, through poems and songs; today those, unintended, invoking poems are getting answered by the Creator , is it not??

Middle class and the poor are the worst affected due to this unbearable and intense heat wave... drinking tap or well water without boiling and filtering gives rise to gastroenteric infections especially in small children and the elderly which need immediate treatment with IV fluids and oral rehydration and suitable antibiotics for bacterial infections....many a times breakout of cholera.... best is to subsist on fresh food with curds, buttermilk, kokam juice, lime juice, sugarcane juice etc etc....shudder to think about the people who live under tin or asbestos sheets without access to electricity.... only their favourite gods , goddesses, spirits, and and divine interventions can protect them from the blistering heat..animals and other types of lives too are the worst sufferers....god save humanity!!
