Air India Express flight's engine catches fire, makes emergency landing

Bengaluru, May 19 (IANS): The Air India Express flight from Bengaluru to Kochi had to make a full-scale emergency landing at Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) due to a fire in one of its engines.

The sources said that the crew members alerted the Air Traffic Controller after a fire was noticed soon after the take off.

"As flames were seen emanating from the right engine after takeoff, the Bengaluru- Kochi flight elected to return and carried out a precautionary landing at Bengaluru on Saturday night. The ground services also reported flames, resulting in an evacuation," said Air India's spokesperson.

"The crew accomplished an evacuation with no injuries to any guests. We regret the inconvenience this has caused and are working to provide alternative arrangements for our guests to reach their destination as soon as possible,” said the spokesperson.

"A thorough investigation with the regulator shall be accomplished to establish the cause," the spokesperson added.

At the end of the day , its a machine and subject to 'technical hazzards'. It happens to the best of the airlines . There are many such instances of reputed airlines catching fire in the engine and grounded for days. Unfortunately we do not have 'dhum in our bxm ' to write or confront them or the respective Govt. They will screw us in the right place. So we swallow the bitter pil and keep our tails tucked . Its only when an Indian Air Carrier goes thru this ordeal, we shout scream , mock, and drag the Govt bashing the leaderhip.

Air india express when it was with Govt. it was bad . But now after TATA expected it to be bettor but its become worst . Timing wise Staff wise Ground staff wise . Very arrogant non respectful . When it was with Govt. at least there was small snack box which was not good but something better then nothing still we were blaming . But now they serve nothing . During Govt. when we buy a drink they served some peanuts . But now nothing . Air India under TATA has lots all our hopes

one of the worst airlines since its inception....third class crew and management...not surprised as it belongs to a third world country that is highly corrupt...by looking at the behavior and also appearance of the crew we can make out that most are recruited on influence and not calibre.

Air India will never improve. On 9th of May I suppose to travel from Mangalore to Bahrain at 7.30 PM. I received a call from Air India at 3 PM that my flight is cancelled due to strike from employees. I will receive full refund, but I received Rs.8,800.00 less. I need to travel urgently to Bahrain, hence, I came on a longer route paying double the cost. I requested airline staff for alternative arrangement as I need to fly urgently, they refused to do so and very arrogant to me over the phone. We are so happy when Tata took over Air India. Airline is not serving food or beverages even we are ready to pay. We need alternative airline like Emirates, Saudia Airlines, Gulf Air etc.
