Dubai, Jun 3: After presenting back-to-back hit events, USWAS-Shirva is ready to set the stage on fire again through the much-awaited cultural extravaganza, ‘Kala Sangam’.
The event is set to showcase a fusion of music and hilarious comedy. Multi-starrer artistes comprising the stylish, dashing & power packed singer Lavita Lobo, romantic, talented & versatile singer Ashwin D’Costa and evergreen Yuva-Pratiba & melody star, Maxim Pereira.
The Great India Laughter Challenge & India’s laughter champion runner up, celebrity comedian Nitesh Shetty will perform live. The event will be held at Sheikh Rashid Auditorium, The Indian High-School, Dubai on Saturday, September 28, 2024 organised by USWAS-Shirva in association with Precious Parties & Entertainment.
Introducing the artistes
Lavita Lobo: A professional recording and live vocalist specialising in commercial, pop and western classical music, hails from the depths of classical genre. She received the 'Best Konkani Vocalist Award' in 2011 as well as the 'Beneryl Golden Voice of Mangaluru'. Also, she was awarded the best female singer at the prestigious global Konkani music award by Kalaangann Mangaluru.
She was awarded the A R Rahman Scholarship at KM College of Music & Technology, as well as the 'Best Western Classical Singer Award'. A playback singer/performer who is proficient in multilingual music. She has worked with eminent music directors such as A R Rahman, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Justin Prabhakaran, Sam C S and many more. Her famous tracks are for actors like Tamanna Bhatia, Kajal Aggarwal, Mahesh Babu, Ravi Teja and many more.
Lavita, a popular name in Konkani music, has rendered her voice in many music albums and Konkani music concerts in India and abroad.
Ashwin D’Costa: A senior software engineer by profession, singer, actor and dancer by passion, he has sung over 80+ albums in various languages including POP, devotional albums, more than 500 songs for short films, radio and TV jingles. Done playback singing for two Konkani movies, Ek Aslyar Ek Nam and Nirmillem Nirmonem. He has also performed with Bollywood fames like Usha Uthup, Anurada Podwal, Remo Fernandes and sandalwood fames like Guru Kiran.
He has been part of more than 400 stage shows, international shows held at Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Israel and more.
Maxim Pereira: He is popularly known to his fans as “Baila Boom Maxim”, because of his famous audio cassette “Baila Boom” from Angelore Parish. He was awarded the title ‘Melody Star’ by Pearls of Mangalore. Blessed with a flair for music, he plays various instruments. Having the pen name "Glomax", he has composed and tuned more than 150 songs in Konkani and few songs in Tulu.
He built up Angelore's 'Glorious' band 22 years ago and is today known as the "G Major" band. He has 13 music albums, 12 Maxim Musical Nites and performed over 50 stage shows in the country and internationally.
Nithesh Shetty: He is a stand-up comedian who started his career as an RJ on Radio Fever 104FM and Red FM 93.5. In 2017, he participated in a popular reality stand-up comedy show named 'The Great Indian Laughter Challenge' in the 5th season. He was the first runner-up in the 5th season of the show. In 2018 he appeared as a host in the dance reality show 'High Fever Dance Ka Naya Tevar', a Hindi language TV series. In 2022, he was the first runner-Up for the India's Laughter Champion - reality stand-up comedy series.
He has had the opportunity to perform with Bollywood celebrity stars like Rajkumar Rao, Akshay Kumar, Sajid Khan, Shreyas Talpade, Lara Dutta and many more. He has performed at various places in India and internationally as well.
About USWAS-SHIRVA
USWAS-SHIRVA is a group of dedicated members who belong to the parish of Our Lady of Health Church Shirva. The group is one of the most vibrant and well-established associations among the parishes of the Udupi diocese. This association has been consistently rendering a constant service in various fields for the past 22 years. USWAS is a non-profit association, abides and drives its spirit with the motto ‘Lend a hand not for self, but for each other’.
Driven by its motto, USWAS extends unconditional service to promote the well-being of Shirvites, Shirva parish and the society, uplift Konkani language and culture, education of financially backward children, supports alma matter, medical aid, house construction, marriages of economically backward families and many other purposes.
USWAS SHIRVA unveils ‘Kala Sangam’
USWAS Shirva held a teaser and ticket release event at Winny’s Restaurant, Karama on Friday, May 31, under the leadership of Joel Tauro.
The programme was compered by Roshan Menezes.
The programme commenced with a prayer led by Anisha Machado along with a hymn to our patron Saud Mai by the USWAS committee. USWAS President Joel Tauro welcomed the patrons, well-wishers and artistes. He emphasised the proverb, “In unity is strength” and how with support we can reach out to many needy.

‘Kala Sangam’ was announced by launching the teaser and the poster. All distinguished guests unveiled the event & ticket poster.
Joseph Mathias spoke highly about USWAS and the associated activities over the past years. He also appreciated USWAS’ committee members for their service towards uplifting and supporting Konkani artistes along with their main goal of helping the needy people for various other causes. He introduced Kala Sangam and requested everyone to support and make the event a full house.
James Mendonca shared his connection with USWAS and how he ensured to attend and support all the activities undertaken by USWAS. He encouraged all USWAS members to continue doing good for the society. He requested that all to get together, to see Kala Sangam and not to miss the event on September 28, 2024.
Distinguished guests present at the event were: Ivan Quadros (Lumen Group of Companies), Reena Menezes (Omnitech) James Mendonca (Reliable Fabricators), Joseph Mathias (Merit Freight Systems LLC), and Walter Mathias (Ratsky). Many Konkani community leaders attended and assured support for Kala Sangam.
The event was signed off with a vote of thanks rendered by secretary Oscar Rego, while the cultural head, Lavina Tauro presented the distinguished guest with roses as an appreciation of their continuous support to USWAS.
