Mangaluru, Jun 7: "Modi announced his intention to create a 'Congress-mukt Bharat’, but today the BJP has lost many seats. The BJP members mocked Rahul Gandhi by calling him 'Pappu’, but today he has won in two constituencies, silencing everyone," said district Congress President Harish Kumar.
Addressing the media on Friday, June 5, Harish Kumar stated, "The Lok Sabha elections have concluded, with the NDA alliance securing 292 seats and the Congress party gaining 99 seats. The Congress rebel in Maharashtra who won the Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate has also re-joined the party, increasing the tally to 100."
He further added, "Regardless of who forms the government, what is important is that the new government focuses on benefiting the public. Let the ED and IT agencies operate independently. From now on, we should set aside political animosity and focus on building a government dedicated to serving the public."
"Prime Minister Modi declared ten years ago that he would create a 'Congress Mukt Bharat’. However, he has failed to fulfill previous election promises. Despite attempting to create problems for the opposition parties using the ED and CBI, he could not succeed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also claimed they would secure more than 400 seats, but their own tally has reduced to 240," he said.
He further added, "Considering the history and impact of the Congress party on the general public, it is impossible for anyone to say they can completely eradicate the Congress party from politics. Rahul Gandhi has also won in two constituencies with a significant majority. Despite being called 'Pappu’, Rahul Gandhi has demonstrated his true spirit by achieving significant victories. In the 2019 elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi secured a majority of over 4 lac votes, but this time we won with just 1.5 lac votes, and he was trailing in the first round. This election will serve as a lesson for him. The BJP is now dependent on TDP and JDU, and both parties have a history of switching alliances. I hope the government will focus more on reducing inflation and addressing poverty."
"We lost the Mangaluru constituency despite having the best candidate, but we couldn't secure victory. The Congress party has received 1,14,000 more votes than the last election, and this is not the end for us. Winning and losing are common in elections, and we accept our defeat. Whether we win or lose, it is not an individual achievement; it is the responsibility of the party, including mine," he said.
When asked about Congress party members demanding his resignation for losing the Lok Sabha elections, Harish Kumar said, "We have to adhere to the party's principles, and we cannot simply resign and shirk our responsibility. Janardhan Poojary lost five times and Veerappa Moily lost two times, yet nobody resigned or demanded resignations from the party president. If any Vidhana Sabha elections candidate or Padmaraj himself asks for my resignation, then at least it makes sense. We will not respond to online comments just because someone is sitting and commenting. I have been made the party president because my seniors have recognized my achievements over all these years."
