Kundapur: MP Kota Srinivas Poojary inaugurates passengers’ shelter

Kundapur, Jun 17: “Due to the continuous efforts of railway passengers’ welfare committee, many facilities are acquired in Kundapur railway station. Only certain works can be done by the government. It is appreciable that facility like passengers’ shelter is done in the railway station. Upgradation of railway stations, installation of new trains and extension of railways station will be done after calling meeting of railway users,” said Kota Srinivas Poojary, MP of Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency.

Poojary spoke after inaugurating the passengers’ shelter at the Kundapur railway station donated by Venkatesh Shet, owner of Raghavendra Jewellers.

Venkatesh Shet, Geetha Venkatesh Shet and Kartik Shet were felicitated on the occasion. The new MP was also honoured.

The railway passengers’ welfare committee submitted an appeal to MP. The appeals includes upgradation of Kundapur railway station, stoppage of various trains, merging of Konkan Railway with Indian railways, weekly train between Kundapur and Bengaluru via Padil Bypass, airport for Udupi district, new trains for Kundapur-Tirupati and Kundapur-Varanasi routes, upgradation of Bengaluru railway route and improvement of timings of Panchaganga train which is the lifeline of coastal Karnataka public.

Speaking on the occasion, Ganesh Puthran, president of railway passengers’ welfare committee, said, “Already many facilities are available in Kundapur railway station. Now Venkatesh Shet has donated passengers’ shelter at a cost of Rs two lac. This will be convenient to the passengers. Kota Srinivas Poojary is visiting here for the third time. Our committee has strengthened because of him becoming MP.”

Convener Vivek Nayak, T Praveen, Udaya Bhandarkar, Gautam Shetty, Chandra Kumbashi, Raghavendra Shet, Kenchanur Somashekhar Shetty, Joy Carvalho, Tammiah Bhandarkar, Nagaraja Acharya, Abijit Saranga, Pushparaj Shet, senior traffic manager of railways Dilip D Bhat, engineer Venkatesh and official K S Bhat were present.
