Sullia, Jun 19: Police successfully solved a murder case involving a man found dead in the corridor of Kantamangala School in Ajjavara village, Sullia taluk, and have arrested the suspect.
The accused, Uday Kumar Naik (35) from Edamangala in Kadaba taluk, was apprehended for the murder of a man named Vasanth (45) from Virajpet on Sunday night. The incident came to light on Monday morning when the body was discovered.
Uday Kumar had met Vasanth in a bar, and on Sunday night, the two travelled to Kantamangala in an auto rickshaw and slept in the school corridor. Uday noticed that Vasanth had Rs 800 with him. In a bid to steal the money, Uday picked up a stone and struck Vasanth on the head, killing him. After committing the murder, Uday fled the scene with the money and Vasanth’s mobile phone. The police, who initiated an investigation, managed to track and arrest the suspect by exploring various leads. It was revealed that the accused had been staying away from his home to avoid detection.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of SP Ryshyanth C B, ASP Rajendra D S, and Puttur DySP Arun Nagegowda. The team included Sullia circle inspector Satyanarayana, Puttur inspector Satish J J, Sullia sub-inspector Mahesh, Subramanya sub-inspector Karthik, and officers Uday Gowda, Prakash, Uday, and Anil, among others.
