Mangaluru, Jun 20: District BJP staged a protest by blocking the road at PVS circle on Thursday, June 20, against the Congress-led state government over the rise in petrol and diesel prices.
A large number of BJP leaders, including MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, MLA Vedavyas Kamath, mayor Sudhir Shetty Kannur, and corporators, gathered at PVS circle and raised slogans against the state government.
Capt Brijesh Chowta said, "The Congress government has imposed a burden on the public by raising petrol and diesel prices. Siddaramaiah has punished the people of Karnataka for supporting BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Hindutva ideology by increasing prices. The BJP has always stood in favour of the deprived public. The Congress government is in a confused state after losing the recent elections and is looting money from the public to fill the government's treasury."
"Two days ago, the BJP protested and warned the government. Today, we are blocking the road and protesting against the government. In the upcoming sessions, all BJP MLAs will raise their voices against this injustice and fight until justice is served," he said.
MLA Vedavyas Kamath stated, "Siddaramaiah claims that the government is not incurring losses and has sufficient funds in the treasury. The chief minister needs to clarify why petrol and diesel prices are being increased despite adequate funds in the government treasury, burdening the public."
Later, the BJP leaders blocked the road and continued raising slogans. Police detained the protestors.
