Mangaluru, Jul 9: In a startling incident on Tuesday July 9, a youth from Dharmanagara Ullal, identified as Sudhakar Acharya, entered the historically renowned Kadri Sri Manjunatha temple and caused a disturbance.
The youth rode his bike directly into the temple yard and proceeded to the Annappa Gudi, where he kicked the door and disrupted the sanctity by mishandling sacred artefacts.
Upon entering the Annappa Gudi, he climbed stairs and jumped onto the temple roof from a window in an erratic manner. Reports suggest he attempted to assault a priest who questioned his behaviour.
Local youths intervened, subdued the youth, and handed him over to the Kadri police. Investigations are underway, revealing that he works as a security guard at a private hospital in the city.
It has been highlighted as a severe security lapse, given that the youth managed to breach the temple's security despite the presence of seven guards. The Kadri temple administration has filed a complaint, noting previous instances of similar disruptive behaviour at other temples.
Authorities state that Sudhakar Acharya may be mentally unstable and is currently undergoing treatment. His mother confirmed that he had not taken his medication for three days and had been behaving unusually. He informed his mother before the incident, taking his brother's motorcycle to the temple.
