Kasargod, Jul 10: In light of the alleged ongoing harassment faced by locals at the Talapady toll gate, no representative from Manjeshwar has shown any initiative to find a solution thus far. Witnessing the plight of the locals, the SDPI leaders have now intervened, raising their voice with the authorities and issuing a protest warning, which has instilled some hope among local travelers.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, various political parties and a committee named Toll Gate Struggle Committee voiced their concerns for the locals. However, post-COVID, no one has turned their attention to the issue. Prior to the pandemic, residents within a 5 km radius from Kerala and Karnataka were allowed free passage at the toll gate. However, after COVID, free passage was restricted only to residents of Talapady, leaving out those from Manjeshwar.
In the absence of any representative from Manjeshwar voicing concerns, local travelers who questioned the situation faced goon attacks, leading to considerable frustration among the locals.
In this context, SDPI's decision to pursue legal action has brought some hope to the locals.
They have submitted a petition to the Project Director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at the Mangalore office, seeking solutions to the various issues at the Talapady Toll Booth and demanding free passes for those residing within a 5 km radius. They have also warned of a protest at the toll gate if their concerns are not addressed.
