Mangaluru, Jul 14: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Monday, July 15. Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for July 16 to 18. The region experienced steady rainfall throughout Sunday.
In response to the red alert, the district administrations of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have initiated precautionary measures to mitigate potential impacts. The residents are urged to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Emergency services, including the police, fire department, and medical teams, are on high alert to respond to any incidents resulting from the heavy rain.
Local authorities have also issued warnings to fishermen, advising them not to venture into the sea due to rough conditions expected over the next few days. Residents in low-lying areas and near riverbanks are being advised to move to safer locations to avoid the risk of flooding. The administrations are coordinating with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to ensure readiness for any potential evacuation or rescue operations.
