Bantwal, Jul 15: The taluk experienced heavy rain on Monday, July 14 resulting in various damages and causing the Netravathi River to overflow. The water level of the river, which was at 3.1 meters on Monday morning, exceeded 6 meters by evening. As a precautionary measure, the taluk administration has issued warnings to residents living near the riverbanks.
Car falls into gorge, bus overturns
In a related incident, a Maruti Swift car lost control and plunged into a water-filled gorge near the Panemangalore market road on Sunday night. The incident occurred around 11:30 PM when the driver, Ananthakrishna, was trying to avoid a pothole amidst heavy rain. Fortunately, the driver escaped uninjured. The car was damaged and was retrieved with a crane by Monday afternoon.
Another accident took place on the Ajilamogaru-Sarapady road in Kottunja, Maninalkur village, where a private bus traveling between Sarapady and B.C. Road overturned on Monday. The bus completely flipped into a paddy field, but fortunately, all passengers escaped without injuries. Due to the excessive rain, the field was filled with water, resulting in some passengers getting soaked in mud.
In Punacha village, a coconut tree fell on the residence of Subba Patali Bin Shankar Patali at Ajjinadka, causing significant damage to the house. Thankfully, there were no injuries. In Amtady village, a tree fell on the house of Chandrashekar at Kalayikodi, causing partial damage to the property.
