Udupi, Jul 8: Deputy commissioner Dr Vidya Kumari has declared a holiday for all schools and PU colleges across the entire district on Friday, July 9, due to widespread rainfall.

All anganwadis, primary schools, high schools, and Pre-University Colleges (upto 12th class) will remain closed on July 19. However, engineering colleges, diploma colleges, ITIs, and post-graduate courses will operate as usual.

The precautionary holiday for anganwadi centers, primary and high schools, and PU colleges is aimed at ensuring safety amid the ongoing inclement weather and a red alert declared by the IMD for the next couple of days.

Over the past 24 hours, significant rainfall has caused flooding in many low-lying areas, impacting civic life.

The heavy downpour has resulted in considerable damage, as reported by district authorities in Udupi.

The public is advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant during this period of heavy rainfall and potential flooding. The emergency service is available 24x 7 via free control room number 0820-2574802.
