Mangaluru: Lokayukta raids MCC commissioner's house, office – Assets worth Rs 2.77 crore discovered

Mangaluru, Jul 20: Lokayukta police raided the house and office of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) commissioner C L Anand, uncovering assets valued at Rs 2.77 crore.

The Lokayukta team arrived at the commissioner's government bungalow in Mannagudda around 6 am on Friday and conducted a four-hour inspection. They later continued the search at Anand's office.

Anand took charge as MCC commissioner on June 28, 2023. On July 4, 2024, the government issued a transfer order without assigning him a specific position. Anand appealed to the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT), arguing that the transfer order was premature. The KAT subsequently cancelled the transfer order, allowing him to remain as commissioner of MCC.

The search operation was conducted at six locations linked to Anand, revealing assets in various places. His total assets, valued at Rs 2.77 crore, include three houses, four acres of agricultural land, immovable property worth Rs 2.12 crore, gold ornaments worth Rs 19.4 lac, a vehicle worth Rs 20.5 lac, an advance of Rs 10 lac for property purchase, and Rs 16 lac in the names of his wife and children.

There's a govt office in Mangalore that has its Headquarters in Bengaluru which is for some weird reason taking in engineers from BBMP to be executive engineers and the rumor is that they're demanding 50 lakhs for the postings. Hope Lokayukta can verify this.

Officers like these should be dismissed from their jobs. If we go to the Mangalore City Corporation for any official work, they don’t do anything except accepting bribes. Such individuals are unfit for this position. Seize their illegal properties and dismiss them from their jobs. 🚫🔍

Not a big catch to boast off... 2.77 crores and very little in movable assets... He is not a fool to amass immovable properties without source plan... If cash was confiscated it would be proof enough... This case will go in the bin in course of time....

We know the affluent class in India..80% of them create generational wealth through corrupt practices. It is a blotch on our democratic system. This kind of wealth if not controlled will be disastrous for India
