Kundapur, Jul 23: Local farmers gathered at Kota Mangalya Mandira on July 21 to discuss forming guidelines for a protest to address flooding issues affecting over 500 acres of land within Kotra gram panchayat limits, including Moodgiliyaru, Hartallu, and Chithrapadi Bettakki.

The farmers expressed their concerns, stating, “Every year our paddy crops are destroyed due to floods. Removing the silt from the nearby rivulet would significantly resolve the issue. However, the concerned officials do not respond to our repeated appeals. A protest is the only solution. Janaseva Trust should lead the protest.”

A decision was made to submit an appeal to the local MLA to survey and develop the rivulet, with a specific time period given for the task. If the issue is not resolved within the given time, a protest and roadblock will be organized.

Vasant Giliyaru of Janaseva Trust, along with Dinesh Shetty, Ashok Shetty, Saphal Shetty, Arun Shetty, and Nikil Nayak, were present at the meeting. The farmers were represented by Bharath Kumar Shetty, Shyamsundar Nari, Raghavendra Shetty, Mahesh Shetty, T Manjunatha, Subhash Shetty, Mahabala Herle, Kedur gram panchayat president Prashanth Shetty, Raghavendra Poojary Holekattu, Yogananda Hegde, Vijaya Giliyaru, Surya Shetty, Ajit Devadiga, and Kota gram panchayat president Satish Barikere.
