Mangaluru, Jul 28: An individual was reportedly assaulted by 20 private bank employees on Saturday, July 27, after he refused to pay the full loan amount following the seizure of his scooter.
Yathiraj Shetty, the victim, recounted the events, saying, “My two-wheeler was seized by a private bank, and when I went to repay the loan to retrieve my vehicle, the bank staff spoke rudely to me and used harsh, abusive language against me and my parents. Nearly 20 staff members of the bank suddenly attacked me. I was later admitted to Wenlock Hospital and have since filed a police complaint against the bank.”

Shetty added, “I had previously called and informed the bank staff about my arrival to pay the loan amount and reclaim my vehicle. They responded that this could not be done and insisted that the entire loan amount had to be paid to retrieve the vehicle, which is completely against the rules. The bank had not issued any notice regarding the seizure of my vehicle. The bank officials also made derogatory remarks, saying they had given loans to beggars and referring to all their customers in a similar manner.”
Shetty further explained, “When I went to the police station, I was unable to lodge a complaint due to new legal restrictions, and the police attempted to mediate. I am now approaching the court regarding this incident. This whole experience was traumatizing, with 20 people attacking me without reason. I have also reported the matter to Speaker U T Khader and MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, and such incidents should not happen to anyone in the future.”
