FA Appeals Against Rooney's Three-Match Ban

London, Nov 5 (IANS): The FA has confirmed that it will be appealing UEFA's three-match ban against striker Wayne Rooney, who received a red card in England's Euro football qualifier against Montenegro.

Rooney was sent off during the 2-2 draw for kicking Miodrag Dzudovovic, receiving a ban for three matches from the UEFA. The ban means that Rooney would miss all of England's group matches at the Euro 2012, Xinhua reported.

The FA, English soccer's governing body, received the written reasons for the ban from the European soccer's governing body Tuesday evening and made the decision to appeal by the deadline of midnight Friday.

The 26-year-old Rooney is England's first-choice forward, having scored 28 goals in 73 appearances.
