Kundapur, Jul 29: A team of strangers posing as police officers and officials arrived at the house of an entrepreneur in Manoor early on July 25, causing panic among locals. A case has been filed at the Kota police station.
Kavita, the homeowner, reported to the police, "At around 8:30 am on July 25, there was a knock on the door which I ignored. When I checked at 9 am, no one was there. Meanwhile, Krishna from Sign in Security, who monitors our house 24x7 via CCTV, informed me that six to eight people had arrived in two cars and tried to open the gate. When they couldn't, they jumped the compound wall and attempted to forcefully open the door and windows, damaging the gate."
CCTV footage showed five people in one car, with one wearing a safari suit resembling an official. Another car had one person in a police uniform and others. In total, eight people were suspected, although the footage showed six people moving around. The gang arrived while it was drizzling, tried to open the gate, and then banged on it. Unable to enter, they climbed over the wall, moved towards the main door, and eventually left when no one opened the door.
Sign in Security personnel immediately called the house members upon noticing the gang but initially received no response. Later, when Krishna, the company owner, called, the house members answered and were informed of the situation. The house members suspected the gang might be from IT or ED.
The gang, unable to gain entry, left via Barkur Road, avoiding the Sastan toll gate, and drove at high speed. They had apparently taken measures to obscure the registration plates of their cars.
Thanks to the alertness and timely alarm by Sign in Security's live CCTV monitoring system, a possible dacoity was averted. The company has prevented more than 27 crimes so far.
Police are investigating the incident, suspecting dacoity as the primary motive. If the team had been from IT or ED, they would have involved the police to open the door. It is clear that the strangers were not government officials, but their identities remain unknown.
“Two separate teams have been formed to investigate the attempted dacoity incident that took place in Kota,” said Udupi police superintendent Dr Arun K.
Regarding the incident, he further said, "The owner of the house is an accused in several criminal cases and also involved in betting. Based on his wife's complaint, an FIR is registered and we are verifying whether it was a genuine official team which arrived to secure him or otherwise.”
