Diocese of Udupi expresses deep concern over Wayanad landslide victims, promises help

Udupi, Jul 31: The Bishop of the diocese of Udupi, the Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, has expressed profound sorrow over the lives lost due to the landslide in Wayanad district, Kerala. He stated that the diocese is prepared to extend all possible assistance to those rendered homeless by this disaster.

According to reports, the landslide in Wayanad has already claimed over 150 lives, with many more still missing as search operations continue. Numerous individuals are injured and receiving treatment in hospitals. Rescue operations are ongoing, with the military, government agencies, and various volunteer organizations joining forces to aid the victims.

In addition to the landslide and flooding in Kerala, heavy rains have caused significant damage in many parts of Karnataka. Special prayers for protection from these calamities and for the souls of the deceased have been scheduled in all churches within the diocese. The diocese has also decided to collect and provide all forms of assistance to help the displaced rebuild their lives. Bishop Lobo has appealed to generous donors to contribute abundantly to this cause.
