Kundapur, Aug 1: Houses belonging to Pradeep Shetty, Geetha Shetty, and Prema Shetty in Kambalagaddemane Upgrama of Molahalli gram panchayat collapsed due to heavy rains that lashed the area on Wednesday night.

The nearby river overflowed due to continuous rains, surrounding all nearby houses with floodwaters. It is said that the main reason for the river's overflow is the failure to remove silt.

The residents, alerted by the rising water level, moved their cattle to safer places and sought refuge with relatives. Furniture, TVs, refrigerators, and other valuable household goods were damaged due to the collapse of the houses.

Kundapur MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi, Udupi deputy commissioner Vidyakumari, tahsildar Shobhalaxmi, Congress leader Molahalli Dinesh Hegde, Udaya Kulal, and gram panchayat personnel rushed to the spot on Thursday morning. The gram panchayat reported that this situation recurs every monsoon.
