Mangaluru: Heroic neighbour captures nine-foot python before experts arrive

Mangaluru, Aug 9: Laxmi Kamath, a resident of Dongarakeri, has earned widespread praise for her bold act of capturing a nine-foot python spotted near the cowshed of Balakrishna Nayak on Tuesday night.

The python was first noticed around 9 pm, quickly drawing a crowd of locals. However, no one dared to approach the reptile, fearing it might slither into a nearby woodpile. That’s when Laxmi Kamath, a neighbour of Balakrishna Nayak, stepped in and captured the python. With the help of snake expert Aditya, the reptile was later placed in a gunny bag and taken to a safer location.

Laxmi Kamath explained, “I gained the courage to catch the python from observing my husband Raghavendra handle snakes. I used to touch them, which gave me confidence.”

Balakrishna Nayak, the homeowner, mentioned that pythons had been seen in the area over the past three years. “Last year, snake experts caught a similar python, and I informed them again this year. But before they arrived, Laxmi Kamath bravely caught the nine-foot python herself,” he said.
