Bantwal, Aug 9: The number of miscreants dumping garbage on both sides of roads in rural areas and highways is increasing at an alarming rate. In response, gram panchayats are taking decisive actions to apprehend these violators.

The Sajipamunnur gram panchayat has imposed fines amounting to thousands of rupees on vehicle riders and drivers caught dumping garbage in public places, aided by CCTV cameras. Gram panchayat PDO Laxman reported that ?25,000 has been collected in fines from five vehicle owners who violated the civic rules.

Dumping of garbage near Marnabailu Guligana Kate and opposite Panemangaluru Sharada School was quite common. Despite the gram panchayat's efforts to put up warning boards, the problem persisted. In every gram panchayat meeting, garbage dumping in public places was a primary concern. Consequently, a decision was made to install CCTV cameras. Prior to the installation, the existing piles of garbage were cleared to ensure that the number plates of offending vehicles would be clearly visible.

The PDO issued notices to violators based on footage from the CCTV cameras. Both the gram panchayat and the public have welcomed this move. With many schools and houses located near the previously affected areas, there was a significant risk of contagious diseases spreading due to the accumulated garbage. The gram panchayat's proactive measures have now reduced this risk and helped prevent potential health hazards.

People are becoming more uneducated ,but complain govt.Best is let them keep more dust bins of big size on road sides. So that people may dump this in bins than road side .it is a way to avoid problems.OR keep a watchman to see who is doing this besides cameras. Why cant govt.punish them by arresting and keeping in jail for a week?Besides heavy punishment?
