Udupi, Aug 13: Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal held ‘MAHE-Aatida Tulu Parbha’, at KMC auditorium on August 13.
Dr H S Ballal, pro vice chancellor MAHE, traditionally inaugurated the event by unleashing the coconut tree pollen. He in his inaugural note said, “The purpose of organizing ‘Aatida Tulu Parbha’ is to promote multiculturalism. Tulunadu is well versed in both Tulu and Kannada language. Unless we make students and the younger generation aware of Tulu culture, it will disappear. Most religious activities do not occur during the aati month. By organizing such events, we aim to bridge the gap between Tulu culture and other cultures.”
Raviraja NS, COO MAHE, in his note provided an insight into the historical formation of Tulunadu and its rich heritage. He highlighted the role of Parashurama in formation of Tulunadu and development made in Tulunadu by Alupa’s. The essence of Tulu culture remains intact along with the development. The rich heritage of Tulunadu must be preserved for the future generation and promote the Tulu culture and tradition.
Karunakar Kotegar, director international collaboration MAHE, highlighted the significance of cultural preservation and said, “MAHE has been doing the work of protecting the culture. I make sure that the international students have a glimpse of culture. Tulu Nadu means Tulu country. Not only geography, but also culture and language define a country of its own. Whenever the language is protected the nation is protected, that is the definition of Tulunadu.”
The event featured various stalls by local vendors showcasing traditional artifacts and handlooms. Students participated in competitions and cultural programmes from schools in Udupi, further enriching the celebration.
The traditional flute performance by Koti Kumki marked the inauguration of the event. Druthi Shetty, student of Madhava Kripa School, gave an informative speech on Tulunadu and its tradition.
Praveen K Shetty, department of humanities, welcomed the gathering and Shruthi Shetty, faculty Manipal Institute of Communication proposed vote of thanks and mastered the ceremony.
