Mangaluru, Aug 13: Capt Brijesh Chowta, MP for Dakshina Kannada, announced that Independence Day will be celebrated at the homes of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana beneficiaries.
"We will distribute books by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and inform them about the message and developments under his government. A mega Tiranga Yatra will also take place on Wednesday, August 14, from Karavali Ground to Manjeshwar Govinda Pai Circle, with students and youngsters participating," he said.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, August 13, at Hotel Ocean Pearl, Capt Chowta praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s impact. "Modi has brought significant changes to our society and honored those who sacrificed their lives for others. The way we celebrate Independence Day has evolved, reflecting cultural changes introduced by Modi’s leadership. He is uniting people and transforming politics."
Capt Chowta emphasised that Independence Day should feel like a festival. "The 'Har Ghar Tiranga' initiative highlights our rich culture, and any soldier would be ready to sacrifice their life for the tricolor. As an MP, I am organising this initiative in our district."
He also discussed his recent visit to Wenlock Hospital and the forthcoming Mangaluru Super Speciality Surgical Block, which is set to open soon with Rs 64 crore in funding. "This hospital, a gift from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Dakshina Kannada, is a significant addition to our healthcare system. I thank J P Nadda, Vedavyas Kamath, Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur, and all contributors. It will be the second of its kind in Karnataka outside the capital."
Responding to questions about national flag awareness among youth, Capt Chowta said, "Awareness is needed, and we should respect the national flag. Creating this awareness is our responsibility, and we will address it."
Regarding PM Awas Yojana beneficiaries, Capt Chowta noted, "There are 4,000 beneficiaries, with some houses still under construction. We will visit nine houses per constituency, and next year’s Independence Day will be celebrated on a larger scale, with students and school principals invited."
On the issue of plastic flags, Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur stated, "Plastic flags should not be sold, and strict action will be taken against violators."
