Mangaluru: CCB arrests repeat offender with MDMA worth Rs 1.5 lac

Mangaluru, Jun 26: Acting on credible information, the Mangaluru City CCB police arrested a man allegedly involved in supplying the banned narcotic substance MDMA to the public and students in the city.

Police received information that the accused had procured MDMA and brought it to Mangaluru, from where he was selling it to members of the public and students from a house in the Kulai Gudde area. Based on the tip-off, the CCB team conducted a raid on June 25, and arrested the accused.

During the operation, police seized 15 grams of MDMA worth approximately Rs 1.50 lac, along with a mobile phone, zip-lock covers, and a digital weighing scale. The total value of the seized property is estimated at Rs 2,10,500. A case has been registered at Surathkal Police Station.

The arrested accused has been identified as Annapa Swamy alias Manu (26). He is a resident of Hosa Mane Nilaya, 3rd Cross, Eshwar Nagar, Idya, Kulai Hosabettu, Surathkal, Mangaluru, and was currently residing in a rented house belonging to Sadananda near the water tank at Kulai Gudde, Mangaluru city.

Police said the accused is a repeat offender. He has previously been booked under the NDPS Act at Panambur and Bajpe police stations, besides facing assault and mosque stone-pelting cases at Surathkal police station and an attempt-to-murder case at Ullal police station.

The successful operation was carried out by officers and personnel of the Mangaluru City CCB. Police said several more persons are believed to be involved in the drug supply and trafficking network, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the remaining accused.
