Bantwal: Accused arrested over theft of 16 borewell pumps

Bantwal, Aug 15: In a significant breakthrough, the police have successfully arrested an individual accused of stealing 16 borewell pumps worth approximately Rs 1.81 lac from a property in Gurmme, Punacha village, Bantwal taluk. The pumps belonged to Ganesh Gowda and were kept in a building near his house for repairs.

A special police team arrested the accused, identified as Muhammad Shakir from Perabe, Kochakatte, in Kadaba taluk, on Wednesday.

During the operation, the police recovered the 16 stolen borewell pumps, valued at Rs 1.81 lac, along with a vehicle worth Rs 2 lac, which was allegedly used in the theft. The total value of the recovered items is estimated to be around Rs 3.81 lac. However, two other accused involved in the case are still at large.

The arrest was made under the guidance of Bantwal sub-division deputy superintendent of police S Vijay Prasad and was executed by Vittal police station inspector Nagaraj H and his team.
