Udupi, Aug 18: The roof of an AC coach on the Matsyagandha Express train has collapsed, just one week after MP Kota Srinivas Poojary submitted an appeal to the union railway minister to replace the old coaches of the Mangaluru-Mumbai Matsyagandha Express with new LHB coaches.
Following the roof collapse, passengers from the coastal region and Maharashtra have also called for the use of LHB coaches on the Matsyagandha Express. Despite 26 years having passed since the launch of the Matsyagandha Express, Southern Railways continues to operate the train using old ICF coaches. The demand for LHB coaches has not yet been addressed.
Kota Srinivas Poojary, who sought information on the roof collapse, assured that he would take the matter up with Southern Railways and the union railway minister as soon as possible to ensure that the coaches are replaced with LHB coaches.
Meanwhile, a video showing the collapsed roof of the AC coach on the Matsyagandha Express, along with the letter submitted by MP Kota Poojary on July 23, has gone viral on social media.
