Bengaluru, Aug 19: BJP opposition leader R Ashoka on Monday, August 19 alleged that law and order situation has broken down in the State and demanded imposition of President’s Rule in Karnataka.
Addressing the media persons in Bengaluru, the BJP leader claimed that the ruling Congress party was indulging in activities to disturb peace and law and order and alleged that Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President D K Shivakumar, who was bound to maintain law and order, is inciting partymen to rise in revolt and protests against a Constitutional functionary like the Governor, which is strongly condemnable.
Ashoka accused the Deputy Chief Minister of inciting Congress workers to indulge in lawlessness, stone pelting, burning tyres and other acts and the police have become silent spectators against the ruling party.
It is highly necessary to impose President’s Rule in the State, he said and mentioned that he and BJP-JDS leaders will meet the Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot to recommend imposition of Delhi rule in the State.
The BJP leader claimed that the Governor has merely sanctioned prosecution of the Chief Minister as he was prima facie satisfied about the irregularities. The Governor has not recommended dismissal of the Congress government and therefore the protests against the Governor by the ruling party were totally unwarranted, he said.
Ashoka claimed that BJP leaders B S Yediyurappa, L K Advani and Ramakrishna Hegde had resigned when cases were lodged against them and Siddaramaiah should also quit on his own.
“Burning the pictures of the Governor is an insult to the Constitution,” he said demanding immediate imposition of President’s rule in the State.
