Bengaluru, Aug 20: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has blamed the opposition BJP of misusing the Raj Bhavan and made Governor as their party agent.
Speaking to media persons in Bengaluru on Tuesday, he said BJP has no right to criticise the Congress party for allegedly abusing and insulting the Governor and pointed out that the decision of Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot to allow the prosecution of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the MUDA site allotment issue based on a 'flimsy and baseless' complaint by social activist T J Abraham was “gross misuse of powers and completely unconstitutional.”
The Governor issued a show cause notice to the Chief Minister on the same day he received the complaint and later accorded sanction without applying his mind and totally disregarding the detailed advice submitted by the Council of Ministers without giving any reasons, he said and pointed out that the Congress party workers were justifiably upset and resorted to protests.
Shivakumar said BJP has misused Governors in different non-BJP ruled States like Jharkhand, Delhi, West Bengal, Kerala and Tamil Nadu and have no right to speak on behalf of the Governor.
Asked about the refusal of the Governor to grant permission to the Lokayukta against Union Minister and JDS leader in the mining case, he retorted: “I am not a spokesperson for Governor or the Lokayukta and therefore not in a position to speak on the issue.”
He said he would not know what the Governor was thinking on issuing permission to prosecute Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy based on a Lokayukta case.
Shivakumar, who garlanded the statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at Seshadripuram Bengaluru, said: "Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi is an inspiration for the younger generation. We will instruct the BBMP to organise Rajiv Gandhi's birth anniversary every year.”
He said: "The first file that I signed after becoming a Bengaluru Development Minister was the installation of Rajiv Gandhi statue. We installed it in Sheshadripuram as per the request of Health Minister Dinesh Gundurao. The statue was inaugurated by AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah."
"Rajiv Gandhi had the foresight and was responsible for reducing the voting age to 18, passing Panchayat Raj bill, growth of IT and BT and telephone revolution. The Gandhi family has worked for the nation and has sacrificed for the nation," he added.
