Mangaluru: BJP calls off police station siege demanding FIR against MLC Ivan D'Souza

Mangaluru, Aug 21: The BJP Yuva Morcha staged a protest at the Barke Police Station in Mangaluru, demanding the registration of an FIR against Congress MLC Ivan D'Souza. The protest, led by BJP Yuva Morcha district president Nandan Mallya, initially aimed to lay siege to the station but was called off after discussions with police officers.

After meeting with ACP Pratap Singh Thorat, the Yuva Morcha leaders decided to withdraw their protest, giving the police a 24-hour deadline to register the FIR. They warned that if the FIR is not filed by tomorrow evening, they will resume their protest.

The Barke police station was under heavy security, with four KSRP buses deployed to ensure law and order during the protest. The BJP Yuva Morcha had previously lodged a complaint against MLC Ivan D'Souza on August 19 evening, but the police had only accepted the complaint without registering an FIR. The police cited the need for legal consultation before taking further action, leading to the Yuva Morcha's decision to protest.
