Mangaluru: Long-standing bus shelter mysteriously disappears overnight

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Aug 24: Residents are raising concerns after the sudden disappearance of a bus shelter that was located opposite Pereira Hotel at Hampankatta in the heart of the city.

The bus shelter was in its usual place on Thursday but was found missing on Friday. Reports suggest that the shelter was removed under the pretext of facilitating smoother traffic flow. However, the public is questioning how a bus shelter that has stood in the same spot for 20 years could suddenly become a traffic issue.

There are also allegations that the shop owner behind the bus shelter may have played a role in its removal, which reportedly happened overnight. Locals are now demanding that the bus shelter be reinstalled immediately.

The bus stop was really a dangerous place to drive any small vehicle between the killer buses. Yes, agreed that the passengers will get affected. But the place is really not for a bus stop. Now the rush for buses will be felt near the signal. Another herculean task for the small vehicles.

The bus shelter was on the footpath, not on the road, so no chance of facilitating smooth traffic flow. Most probably someone has stolen the pillars for scrap as they look like railway track. Or if it a restaurant they will utilize this space to lay tables out for additional guests and put a no parking sign there, same as opposite Kamath and Co, that veg restaurant has usurped the public parking and posted notices there that parking for customers only. Will the officials please take note.

Good that bus stand is removed as the bus can now stop near Signal. The removed bus stop was a nuisance as the buses used to stop just before and any a times blocking the GHS Road...two wheelers and small vehicles had to literally pray before getting in to GHS road coz u never know when these giant buses would just start and go..Good riddance..
