Puttur, Aug 25: A gang of thieves broke into a house after ensuring it was unoccupied and made off with cash and gold. The incident was discovered on August 24.

The theft occurred at the residence of Saramma, a resident of Kadabagilu. Saramma’s daughter-in-law had taken her grandson to a hospital in Mangaluru for medical treatment on August 23 and stayed overnight at a relative's house. The theft was discovered when she returned home on August 24.

The thieves first tried to break the main door lock. When they failed, they broke the window grill to enter the house. The thieves stole three sovereigns of gold, Rs 35,000 in cash, and other valuables.

Saramma lives with her grandson and daughter-in-law while her son Imran works abroad. Since the theft occurred when no one was home, it is suspected that someone familiar with the household may be involved.

Puttur Rural Police Station SI Sushma G B and other personnel visited the scene and are conducting further investigations.
