Bengaluru, Aug 25: In a horrifying incident in the city, a stepfather has been accused of hacking his minor stepdaughters to death.
The gruesome double murder took place around 3:30 pm on Saturday, August 24, at Kavery Layout, Amruthahalli. The accused, Sumit, allegedly committed the murders while his wife was at work at a garment factory. Following the killings, Sumit fled the scene.
The Amruthahalli police arrived at the location and took the bodies for post-mortem. A case has been filed based on the complaint lodged by Anita, the mother of the deceased girls.
Anita, who had divorced her previous husband nine years ago, was living with Sumit, a native of Uttar Pradesh. Sumit had promised to care for Anita’s daughters as his own. He worked as a delivery boy, while Anita worked at the garment factory. Recently, Sumit had been showing increasing anger towards the girls.
According to the landlord of the house where the family lived, the couple had been frequently fighting for the past two to three months and had fallen behind on rent payments. The landlord had asked them to vacate the property.
On Saturday evening, after learning of the double murder, the landlord informed the police.
The exact motive behind the murders is not yet known. The matter came to light when Anita returned from work, screamed upon discovering the bloodshed, and notified authorities.
