Bengaluru, Aug 27: Tipplers in the state have something to cheer about. The price of premium brands of liquor has been reduced slightly.
The state government has issued the final notification revising the duty on liquor and beer in comparison with that of other states. The revised rates will be effective from August 27.
Premium brands of liquor had been in short supply in the market since the draft notification was released one and a half months ago. According to the final notification, the number of slabs has been reduced from 18 to 16.

The first three slabs remain unchanged, but there will be a slight increase in the price in the fourth slab. From the fifth slab onward, prices will be lowered. This adjustment affects whisky, rum, and brandy.
Previously, excise duty was applied across 18 different slabs. The updated structure now features 16 slabs. Under the new rates, liquors with a production cost of Rs 450 per litre are placed in the first slab, while those with production costs exceeding Rs 20,000 are classified under the 16th slab.
