Bengaluru, Aug 27: The government is set to implement a 'Digital Advertising' system to ensure that its policies and schemes reach internet users. The Department of Information and Public Relations has announced the immediate implementation of the 'Karnataka Digital Advertising Guidelines-2024'.
With the rise of digital media in recent times, many digital platforms have submitted requests to the Department of Information and Public Relations for government advertisements, as these platforms can effectively reach the younger demographic. Due to the lack of a fixed rate for advertisements on digital media, it was previously not possible for the government to release advertisements. However, following the Central Government's Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) policy, a similar digital policy was prepared by the Department of Information and Public Relations and received government approval for implementation.
The media landscape has changed, with increased use of social media through the internet, private computers, smart TVs, and smartphones. Digital advertisements have become more impactful than traditional advertisements. Considering this, the government aims to deliver its policies and schemes to internet users through digital advertising. The 'Karnataka Digital Advertising Guidelines-2024' have been ordered for immediate implementation by the Department of Information and Public Relations.
Eligibility criteria for digital advertising agencies
To collaborate with the Karnataka Government's Department of Information and Public Relations for advertisements, an agency must meet the following criteria. Advertisements should only be placed on digital platforms empanelled by the department.
- The agency must be a legally registered entity under the Registrar of Companies, Government of India, such as a private limited company, public limited company, partnership, or limited liability partnership.
- The agency must have been in existence for at least two years.
- The agency must have a valid GST registration.
- The agency must operate in Karnataka or have a fully functional office in Karnataka.
- Proficiency in Kannada and English is required.
- The agency should have in-depth knowledge of digital advertising and social media.
- The agency must have a valid agreement with Google and/or Meta or equivalent digital media organizations to place digital advertisements on their platforms.
- The agency should have permission to conduct government promotions on their platforms and/or authorization from Meta or equivalent digital media organizations.
