Mangaluru: Indiana Hospital & Heart Institute to launch Indiana Cancer Centre (ICC) on August 30

Mangaluru, Aug 28: Established in 2011, the Indiana Hospital & Heart Institute, Mangaluru is set to launch the Indiana Cancer Centre (ICC) to provide comprehensive cancer treatment across Karnataka and northern Kerala.

The Indiana Cancer Centre will be inaugurated on August 30, by Dinesh Gundu Rao, state minister of Health & Family Welfare, and the event will be presided over by U T Khader Fareed, speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. This new facility aims to address the critical need for advanced cancer treatment options in the region, where such services have been limited. By offering worldclass, affordable cancer care, the Indiana Cancer Centre seeks to bridge the gap in cancer treatment in this underserved area.

 

Dr Yusuf Kumble, managing director of Indiana Hospital, states, "Cancer treatment has seen remarkable advancements in recent years, utilizing the latest technology. The Indiana Cancer Centre is designed to incorporate these advancements, providing specialized, organ-specific cancer care. This approach, now standard in leading cancer centers worldwide, focuses on personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s unique needs.”

The Indiana Cancer Centre will be managed by a team of distinguished cancer experts.

Dr Ajay Kumar, MBBS, MS, MCh (Surgical Oncology) from GCRI, is part of cancer care team. He is armed with extensive expertise in Head & Neck, Thoracic, and GI cancers, including gastroduodenal, liver, pancreas, and colorectal. Dr Kumar excels in minimally invasive surgeries (MIS) for thoracic and abdominal cancers.

Dr Sangeetha K., MBBS, MS, MCh, DNB (MRCOG) Gynaecological Oncology from GCRI, is a key specialist in the cancer treatment team. Dr Sangeetha brings a wealth of knowledge in treating breast, ovarian, uterus, and cervical cancers. Her dedication to gynaecological oncology promises to enhance the hospital's ability to provide comprehensive and compassionate care for women's cancers.

Dr Ramnath Shenoy, MBBS, MD, DM (Medical Oncology) from Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai, has specialized in both adult and paediatric solid tumours and blood cancers. Dr Shenoy brings expertise in chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted molecular therapy.

The cutting-edge approach and extensive experience of the oncology team uis expected to significantly benefit the patients seeking advanced cancer treatments.

This diverse and highly skilled team will work collaboratively to offer the most effective and personalized cancer treatments, ensuring that every patient receives the best possible care, a release from the hospital said.

Among the guests of honour who are expected to grace the inauguration include Capt Brijesh Chowta, Member of Parliament, Dakshina Kannada;  Vedavyas Kamath, Member of the Legislative Assembly, Mangaluru City South; Inbasekar K, IAS, district collector, Kasargod; Anupam Agarwal,
commissioner of police, Mangaluru City; and Dr H R Thimmaiah, district health officer, Dakshina Kannada.
