Mangaluru, Aug 29: The Centre has released a total of Rs 10.32 crore for various development projects in Dakshina Kannada district under the Prime Minister’s PM-Janman scheme, according to Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta.
In a press statement, Chowta revealed that the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has earmarked this grant for the fiscal year 2024-25 to support the welfare of the tribal community in Dakshina Kannada district. He expressed his appreciation to Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their contributions.
Of the total Rs 10.32 crore allocated, approximately Rs 7.80 crore is intended for road development projects, pending administrative approval from the state government.
Chowta has written to the state’s Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister and the chief secretary, urging them to expedite the administrative approval and implementation of these priority projects.
PM-Janman Scheme allocation in Dakshina Kannada
Under the PM-Janman scheme, the allocated funds will be utilised for:
- Road development connecting Atri and Sulkere in Beltangadi taluk (Rs 2.85 crore).
- Construction of a bridge on the road connecting Atri and Sulkere (Rs 2.67 crore).
- Road development from Parakalu ST Colony in Old Niranaki village, Puttur taluk (Rs 2.28 crore).
- Construction of multi-purpose centers in Middle Village, Mangaluru taluk; KEPU village, Bantwal; Naravi village, Belthangadi; and Panja village, Sullia (Rs 2.40 crore).
- Construction of an Anganwadi centre building in Middle Village, Mangaluru taluk (Rs 12 lac).
What is the PM-Janman Scheme?
The PM-Janman scheme is a central government initiative designed to integrate tribal communities into the mainstream. Implemented by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in collaboration with state governments and PVITG communities, the scheme focuses on 11 areas overseen by nine ministries. It aims to improve safe housing, clean drinking water, health and education systems, nutritional food supply, telecommunications, road connectivity, and sustainable livelihoods, including solar power installations.
