Karkala, Aug 30: In the election for the second term of the Karkala municipal council, senior BJP member and former standing committee chairman, Yogesh Devadiga, has been elected as the president. Prashanth Kotyan, a first-time member, has been elected as the vice president. With this victory, the Karkala municipal council has once again come under BJP's control.
In the election for the president, BJP candidate Yogesh Devadiga secured 13 votes, while Congress candidate Shubhada Rao received 11 votes. In the election for the vice president, BJP candidate Prashanth Kotyan also secured 13 votes, whereas Congress candidate Winnie Bold Mendonca garnered 11 votes.
Out of the 23 members in the Karkala municipal council, both =Congress and BJP had an equal strength of 11 members each, with one independent member. However, with the support of MLA V Sunil Kumar and MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, the BJP's strength increased to 13. The independent member, Lakshmi Narayana Mallya, was absent from the election.
