Mangaluru, Aug 31: ID cards are being distributed to 93 street vendors near State Bank on August 31. Mayor Sudhir Shetty announced that all 667 street vendors will be given the opportunity to conduct business in various zones in phases.

During a phone-in programme held on Friday at the mayor’s office, the public expressed appreciation for the Mangaluru City Corporation’s ‘Operation Tiger’. The mayor stated that street vending on footpaths will not be permitted. The Operation Tiger has been contracted for one year and will continue.

Zonal commissioner Rekha Shetty added, “Separate arrangements have been made for flower vendors, fancy item sellers, snack vendors, and fruit and vegetable sellers near State Bank. They will be provided with shops as well as water and electricity supply.”

Before street vendors were in and around central market area, now our MCC has made a mess making them places around Mangalore. That will spoil the smart city beauty.

nonsense...all footpath will be occupied and no place for commuters, city bus drivers even come over footpath ... better provide space for setting up business. Why other commercial shop owners paying Tax if some street vendor official can permission to setup his his unit..

    Provide employment to the youths and not a street business which hinders commuters, vehicle parking and pedestrians. Vacate all basements who have opened for commercial purposes rather than parking's.
